Gluten Free
Provision of Gluten Free Foods
NHS Central East Integrated Care Board (ICB) was formed on 1 April 2026 and is the successor ICB to NHS Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes ICB, NHS Cambridgeshire and Peterborough ICB and the Hertfordshire part of NHS Hertfordshire and West Essex ICB. NHS Central East ICB had transferred to it the property, rights and liabilities of the predecessor organisations.
This means that Gluten Free foods are not routinely recommended for prescribing in the BLMK area. Please see our position statement BLMK Position Statement. Gluten Free Foods.
Residents who are at risk of dietary neglect will be able to access gluten free foods (breads and flour mixes ONLY) directly from their pharmacies with no GP involvement. Please refer to the flow chart below for eligibility criteria.
GPs were asked to contact those patients affected by letter explaining the new process.
Residents affected who have any questions or require any assistance with the change should contact their Dietitian by e-mail on food.first@nhs.net or the ICB by e-mail blmkicb.contactus@nhs.net.
