Prescription Requirements for Controlled Drugs.

Pharmacists are not allowed to dispense a CD unless all the information required by law is given. For further guidance refer to the BNF; Guidance on Prescribing – Controlled Drugs and Drug dependance (can be found in the front section of the BNF).

List of Palliative Care Drugs to be kept in stock by participating pharmacies from October 2025.


Pain
Morphine sulfate 10mg/5ml oral solution  – 1 bottle of 300ml
Morphine sulfate 10mg/1ml solution for injection – 20 ampoules
Morphine sulfate 30mg/1ml solution for injection – 10 ampoules
Oxycodone 5mg/5ml oral solution sugar free – 1 bottle of 250ml
Oxycodone 10mg/1ml solution for injection – 10 ampoules


Anxiety, Delirium, Agitation
Haloperidol 5mg/1ml injection – 10 ampoules
Haloperidol 5mg/5ml oral solution sugar free – 1 bottle of 100ml
Midazolam 10mg/2mL injection – 20 ampoules


Nausea and Vomiting
Cyclizine 50mg/mL injection – 20 ampoules
Cyclizine 50mg tablets – 1 box of 100 tablets
Dexamethasone (base) 3.3mg/1ml solution for injection – 10 ampoules
Dexamethasone 2mg tablets – 1 box of 50 tablets
Metoclopramide 10mg/2ml solution for injection – 10 ampoules
Levomepromazine 25mg/1ml solution for injection – 10 ampoules


Spasm – biliary colic
Hyoscine butylbromide 20mg/1ml solution for injection – 10 ampoules


Noisy Respiratory Secretions
Glycopyrronium bromide 200micrograms/1ml solution for injection ampoules (600mcg/3ml) – 20 ampoules

Water for injection 10ml – 20 ampoules
